The good news is a laundry renovation is the easiest room in the home to upgrade when compared with bathrooms and kitchens. Now, nobody likes to spend a lot of time in the laundry, but you may as well make it room that is fresh and a pleasure to walk into. The biggest question we get is how much to renovate a laundry, and for under $10,000 you can make the average laundry look amazing.
Ok, so where do I start?
In our opinion, there are two ways. DIY (do it yourself) or engage someone to do your design and cost up the project for a builder to install. At Designer Bathrooms Plus we can help you with DIY and we also offer a design service to help you coordinate the elements required for the new laundry and this will help you engage a builder to install. It is important you get a licensed and insured tradesman to install all the elements of the job and depending on the complexities of the renovation it can even be completed by a licensed trade that may not be a builder.
The simplest laundry renovation is when you leave the existing tiles on the floor and walls, where applicable, and replace just the cabinets and to be honest this is the most common type of laundry renovation we see these days because the existing tiles are usually in good condition and to replace them will likely pose a problem with the existing tiles that transition into the laundry. Unless they are plain white tiles, these days it is tricky to get matching tiles from when the originals where installed and most people don’t want to have a different style and feel of tiles in the laundry from an area that flows into the laundry. Improvements in laundry appliances and a change in human needs has meant the traditional laundry of years gone by has meant cabinetry style and additional storage and hanging space has become a priority for most people. See a recent example of an install below.
Before
After
The great thing about get a laundry from Designer Bathrooms Plus is that it comes pre-assembled in modular form so there are no cabinets to assemble, the benchtop is cut to size with sink and tap hole and it is super quick, around 2-3 weeks from time of order which is a fraction of the time to get one made at a cabinet maker. Our friends at ADP make amazing laundry cabinets and there are 3 styles of cabinetry design with 29 laminex style finishes plus 4 polyurethane paint options and 9 stone top colors which makes the range and options almost endless.
ADP has now released a new laundry system which is a modular system and will allow you to customise your laundry to suit your individual needs. Whether you need a custom wall to wall or just a small laundry, they have a solution for you.
The ADP modular laundry cabinets let you configure endless different combinations and layouts. Here are some simple steps to help you work it out:
Measure the total overall size you have available. remember to make allowance for wall tiles if your laundry hasn’t yet been tiled.
Check your washing machine and tumble drier sizes and confirm with the manufacturer what free space they require around them. We advise that you provide a bit too much free space rather than too little. This ensures that if you replace your machines later you won’t be left with a space that is too small.
Select your preferred cabinet layout from the options available in the ADP range.
Select your laundry sink from the ADP range of 10 sinks. We recommend a 900mm base cabinet to fit the sink. Some smaller sinks may fit into a 600mm base cabinet.
Place the sink next to your washing machine to allow your plumber to connect the water pipes for the washing machine.
If the side of your cupboards butt up to a wall, order a FILLER PANEL to go between the wall and the side of the cupboard. This allows for a neat finish against the wall.
For a neat finish order END PANELS to go beside washing machines or at the end of a row of cupboards if they are not butting up against a side wall. This is not mandatory but will create a neater finish.
Once you have your cabinet layout confirmed, add up the CABINET + END PANEL + WASHING MACHINE sizes to work out the overall benchtop length. Note: the maximum benchtop length is 3000mm.
If you are creating a wall to wall laundry or require a corner unit we can make a special width cabinet to suit. E.G. we can reduce the size of a 900mm cabinet to 850mm.
Most people go for finger pull doors & drawers these days but there are also a range of handles available if you want to bling it up with options that range from leather straps to minimalistic brushed brass metal handles.
